My prized hunt is the Spring Gobbler Hunt in Denmark. Jim got his Marlin last fall at Wal Mart in Denmark. I got my Marlin 300 Win Mag online at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
One issue with the 7.62 mm barrel is if you put a scope on you lose your irons, the scope rail runs into the rear sights so they have to come off to use a scope. I like the hard rock maple stock for the woods. The best shooting caliber for the average hunter I would say the 7.62 mm for best caliber and the 300 Win Mag for the best cartridge. I picked up my Marlin XLR in the hunting section at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Denmark.
