My Dad’s darling caliber for the average hunter I would say the 300 H&R Mag for best caliber and the 243 Winchester for the best cartridge. One issue with shooting a ported 300 Winchester Mag barrel is the increase in muzzle blast.
I got my Ruger Frontier in the hunting section at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Norwalk. I bought the rifle at a show over in Norwalk a few weeks ago. I like the Ruger Frontier a lot because the rife its cambered in more than anything else. I ordered my Ruger Frontier in the hunting section at Gart Sports in Norwalk, North Dakota. My second desired caliber just for elk hunting in the woods of WI though is the 243 Winchester, followed by the 300 H&R Mag.
